Welcome to Friends of Hilo Public Library!
Friends of Hilo Public Library have been part of the largest library on Hawaii Island since 1983. Proceeds go directly back into serving library needs such as purchasing adult , reference and Hawaiiana materials, books and incentives for children’s and adults’ reading contests, computer software, DVDs and many other programs not covered by the limited state budget. In past years, Friends have helped pay for the new white floor tile in the lobby, a new magazine display rack, and brochures about the native plants in the atrium in addition to other “behind-the-scenes” needs of the library. Since 2005 the Friends have also awarded more than $12,000 in scholarships to librarians-in-training at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Every donation, no matter the amount, is invaluable to us. To become a Friend of the Library, a minimum donation of $10 is required. We also offer special recognition for donations of $100 or more, and with a generous gift of $500 or more, you will receive a lifetime membership.
