The Hilo Friends proudly host two book sales each year to raise funds to support various library activities and programs. In addition to these sales, they award an annual scholarship to a deserving Island student pursuing a Master of Library Science degree at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Your contributions help us foster a love for reading and education in our community! Join us in making a difference today.
DONATION GUIDELINES of MATERIAL
for HILO PUBLIC LIBRARY
GENERAL:
• Books, magazines, and other library materials are accepted all year.
• Must be in clean and useable condition (no mold, no mildew, no bugs).
• All donated materials will be reviewed for library needs, then passed on to the HPL Friends.
HILO PUBLIC LIBRARY FRIENDS:
• Textbooks: no more than 5 years old
• Encyclopedias: full sets only, no more than 5 years old
• Children’s materials: all accepted
• Hawaiiana: all accepted
• Paperbacks: only clean and in very good condition
• Records: Hawaiiana desirable
• Commercially produced DVDs and CDs.
• Commercially produced videos and cassettes (no mold, no mildew)
HILO PUBLIC LIBRARY FRIENDS CIRCULATION MAGAZINES:
• Current general interest magazines: no more than 1 year old
• Current weekly news magazines: no more than 3 months old
• National Geographic magazine: current and previous year only
Note: Receipts for donations available upon request. Please take donations to the circulation desk, any books left outside will be discarded.
